Though we don’t carry a full line of Chevy and GMC truck items, we do manufacture and sell a few unique truck items that we designed ourselves and that are available exclusively from Real Deal Steel. These parts evolved from several personal 1955-1959 truck projects we built. Our 16-gauge steel smooth recessed firewall for 1955-59 trucks was the first item we designed and built. We were building a nice, updated 1957 Chevy Cameo truck and hated the look of the original firewall. Since we were installing an LS3 and Vintage Air Conditioning, the stock firewall shape and multiple holes were not needed. Instead of filling holes, we simply cut the stock firewall and built our own. It is available in two styles – a lower recess for LS non-distributor engines and a taller recess designed to clear earlier small block Chevy engines with a distributor. Not only are the firewalls easy to install and beautiful, they offer a much cleaner platform to install under dash components like air conditioning, fuse panels, computer ECM’s, etc.
When we designed the recessed firewalls, we realized that installing a larger late model transmission like the 4L60, 4L40, 6L80, 6L90, 8L, 10L and T56 required more room. So we designed and built the enlarged transmission tunnel to allow easy installation of a newer transmission without having to fabricate something homemade. This tunnel is designed to be used with our recessed firewalls.
Another thing we noticed in the 1955-59 trucks is the lack of leg and foot room in the stock cab. Our simple 6.25” extended floor kit adds a ton of extra room without changing the ability to mount the cab on a stock or aftermarket chassis. A little cutting and welding and you have a much more comfortable truck to drive!
One final item to un-ugly the engine compartment in your truck – our custom steel smoothie front inner fenders! These will dramatically improve the look and simplicity of the engine compartment.
